I want to make a million dollars. This was the answer given to me when I asked one of my clients about the goal of our meeting. When asked what product, service or solution the person had in mind order to reach the goal, in return I was met with a blank face.

Now, it makes no sense to have a goal and not have a passion or a directive as a way to reach the goal. However, this was the person’s objective – merely to make a million. The person voluntarily expounded on how the money was to be expended, nice cars, a house here and there, weekly travel, lots of fancy restaurants, etc.

As odd as it may seem, this is actually not unusual. I consult with many people who say much the same thing and have the same desires with little thought about how they plan to achieve the objective.  Often, it’s about impressing others and not about waking up in the morning inspired into action.

It amazes me how people will spend a lifetime trying to impress other people yet focus little on ways to drive to a solution or create an amazing product to help achieve the monetary objective. These people can often tell you what they won’t do (work in a restaurant, be a gardener, etc.) but there is little to no passion behind what they will do.

Dilemma? Not really. It’s about focus and priority. I contend making a million is super easy. Doubt me? There are now hundreds of gurus on the Internet focused on giving you their roadmap to follow so you can do just that. Will that help you? Probably not if you’re not focused and have a strong desire to fill a void in your marketplace.

So, how then does one accomplish such a goal? It’s my aim to highlight just that point over the next few several weeks by taking you through baby-steps of critical business initiatives to help you achieve your objective, whether it’s $100k a month or $200 a year.  There will be plenty of resources you can study and focus to help guide you through the decision making process on how best to achieve your business objectives.
